KINGSTON, JAMAICA — Drift is now live in Jamaica. As of October 24, 2026, riders can open the Drift app, enter a destination, see the fare in Jamaican dollars before confirming, and be matched with a verified local driver anywhere in Jamaica's 14 parishes — or schedule the ride up to 30 days ahead.
Drivers came first. Onboarding opened in October so that approved drivers were already on the road before booking opened. This is a soft launch: Drift operates in all 14 parishes, and more drivers are approved every week. Outside the main towns, scheduling ahead is the surest way to get a car.
What it costs
No base fare. You pay for distance and time, in Jamaican dollars, and see the full fare before you book.
JMD 600 minimum — a short hop like New Kingston to Half Way Tree.
About JMD 1,200 — Kingston to Portmore across the Causeway, off-peak.
About JMD 7,600–8,500 — Sangster Airport to Negril, airport fee included.

Where Drift operates in Jamaica
All 14 parishes. The busiest areas:
- Kingston & St Andrew — New Kingston, Half Way Tree, Downtown, Liguanea, Papine
- Montego Bay — the Hip Strip, Rose Hall, Ironshore and Sangster International Airport (MBJ)
- Ocho Rios — the cruise pier, Dunn's River, Turtle Beach and resort transfers
- Negril — Seven Mile Beach, the West End and the cliffs
- Portmore — Greater Portmore, Braeton and the causeway commute
- Spanish Town — St Catherine, Old Harbour Road and the Kingston corridor
- Airports — Norman Manley International (KIN) and Sangster International (MBJ)
Anywhere else on the island works too — Treasure Beach, Port Antonio, Mandeville, Runaway Bay. For longer or rural trips, schedule ahead so a driver is confirmed before you need them.

How drivers are verified
Every Drift driver in Jamaica is identity-checked and document-verified before their first trip. When a driver signs up they provide:
- Proof they are 21 or older, with a driver's licence held for at least two years
- A police record and TRN for identity verification
- Vehicle registration, insurance and a current fitness certificate
- A verified phone number
All of it is reviewed before a driver can accept a single trip.
Drivers are responsible for holding whatever licences and insurance Jamaican law requires to carry paying passengers, and we say so plainly rather than leaving it vague. Why Jamaica
Drift started in the Cayman Islands, where Uber and Lyft don't operate and getting around without a car was harder and more expensive than it should have been. That's a familiar shape across the Caribbean: small markets that global platforms treat as rounding errors, and local riders who end up paying for the neglect.
Jamaica is bigger, busier and more complicated than Cayman — fourteen parishes instead of one island, a real regulatory question to navigate, and genuine competition. Uber covers Kingston and Montego Bay; Drift covers all 14 parishes, priced in Jamaican dollars. Hundreds of thousands of people move between Kingston, Portmore and Spanish Town every day, and the tourist corridors from Montego Bay to Negril and Ocho Rios run on transport that is expensive and inconsistent for visitors.
